Kara Welch is a harpist in the greater D.C. and Baltimore area specializing in harp and soul. Kara has a passion for sharing harp music in new spaces and making classical music accessible. She has played harp since 2005 and has had classical training with master teacher, Hye-Yun Bennett. Today, it’s equally as common for the ethereal tones of Kara’s harp to complement the high-class aesthetic of a gala or simply bathe listeners in the sound of the instrument in meditative settings.

Kara is currently expanding her availability for weddings with her duo alongside Nicholas Bobbs on viola. The combination of these two string instruments creates a full-bodied sound for special events.

Highlights of Kara’s career as a soloist include playing at venues such as the Washington National Cathedral, the Howard Theater, the Capital One Hall, and more.

Kara is personally passionate about music from video games. You can hear Kara and Nicky perform seasonally with the Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (WMGSO). WMGSO is a nonprofit orchestra whose mission is to share video game music by putting on affordable, accessible concerts in the D.C. area. Look out for updates regarding the group’s Fall 2023 CD inclusive of harp music from the Final Fantasy series.

Regarding music and its use in therapeutic settings, Kara is both a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) and a certified music practitioner (CMP) with the Music for Healing and Transition Program. Currently, Kara engages with meditative music in event spaces on a weekly basis around the DMV region. She has previously had residencies at the Flow Yoga Center in DC, beside bedsides in George Washington University Hospital, and in hospice halls at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington.
